Tips - traveling with your toddler
Traveling with your toddler can be great fun, or give you a serious case of PTSD. Here are a few tips to stop it being too traumatic:
- Don’t carry too much with you. If you let your toddler dictate what they want to bring, you’ll need a trailer just to carry their stuff, and they’ll just get it all out on the floor to find the one toy they want, and won’t touch the rest of it. And you can guaranteed that you’ll lose half of it.
- Bring a few familiar items – some favourite toys, bedding etc can make where you’re staying feel like home, and your toddler will be calmer at night. Toddler sleeping bags are great for this as they are easy to carry and pack.
- Make sure you have enough time to wear your child out running around. That way they’ll sleep much better.
- Tantrums are inevitable. Just because they are traveling, it doesn’t mean they’ll behave. Get used to it.
- Take familiar food with you. Kids can only cope with so much change. Altering their surroundings as well as their diet could upset them. A lot of places don’t have very suitable food for toddlers, so you can end up spending a fortune on stuff they don’t like
